Technology Viability
Welcome to the forefront of innovation, where the CATCHER project is redefining energy as we know it. Our technology harnesses the power of atmospheric humidity, transforming it directly into electricity.
The CATCHER project is pioneering a groundbreaking technology that transforms atmospheric humidity into electricity. This process is using functional heterojunction effect to provoke a series of complex reactions and interactions between advanced nanomaterials, specifically a zirconium oxide surface, and water molecules from the air.
Pioneering Hygroelectric Cells:
The Future of Solar-Like Energy Solutions
In 2022, researchers created a material plate measuring eight by five centimetres that generated approximately 0.9 volts of electricity under 50% humidity conditions—equivalent to half the power of an AA battery. Future efforts will focus on enhancing the efficiency of this hygroelectric material. Once optimized, it's expected to match the electrical output of similarly sized photovoltaic cells. The team is also exploring how these cells could be utilized like solar panels, either in large photovoltaic parks or as standalone energy sources in buildings.
Overcoming Renewable Energy Market Challenges
In renewable energy market, photovoltaic technology producers contend with limited sunlight hours and angle issues, facing growth challenges due to space constraints for sun tracking. Other renewable energy producers face stagnation in efficiency and flexibility due to the large size of their technologies.
There is one aspect in which CATCHER new technology has an advantage over solar and wind energy. While panels and turbines must be installed in specific locations with sunlight and wind, hygroelectric cells can be placed anywhere, since there is little variation in humidity levels in the same area.
(Hygroelectric cells are, however, not necessarily a viable option in all locations, as they do require minimum levels of humidity to function. For instance, if the outside temperature is minus 15 degrees, everything will be frozen and there will be no water in the air.)
Cost-Effectiveness and Technology Adaptability:
A Game-Changer in Clean Energy
In the realm of clean energy, CATCHER is a game-changer. Our B2B, B2C, and B2G business model is set to disrupt the market with a standard one cubic meter conversion device that powers a 100-200 square meters household with 10 kilowatt-hour per day.
By the end of the project, we anticipate a validated engineering prototype (conversion module) capable of producing 120 watts per square meter. This prototype will lay the groundwork for mass production of a module that would achieve a Levelized Cost of Electricity as low as 3 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Funding Requirements: The 'Money of the Air' Model
CATCHER outputs will revolutionize energy with 'Money of the Air' model. Our aim is that each module will power up 10 kilowatt-hour daily at a production cost of €5 000. Priced at €12 000, there is a competitive edge and a healthy €4,000 profit per unit. Our goal? To claim 0.5% of the €1.5 billion market in five years. Within three years, we aim to sell 200 modules, and in seven years, achieve full-scale production with an Levelized Cost of Electricity of merely 3 cents per kilowatt-hour. From concept to Pathfinder project, CATCHER has been on a relentless pursuit of efficiency. Now, we're seeking Round A investment to bring our engineering prototype to life and demonstrate its real-world potential.
Regulatory Compliance: Aligning with Global Goals
CATCHER aligns perfectly with the EU's Strategic Energy Technology Plan, aiming for zero fossil fuel usage by 2050. Our technology is a key player in the global effort to meet the Paris Agreement's one point five degrees Celsius temperature goal.
Strong Intellectual Property
Our intellectual property is rock-solid, with two patents and trade secrets on zirconium dioxide-based nanomaterials synthesis and manufacturing, ensuring our leading edge.
Initially, a laboratory prototype created in 2015 could generate 15-25 milliwatts per square centimetre. Following this, two patents were filed in 2019 for the synthesis and production of zirconium dioxide-based nanomaterials. Currently, the CATCHER project is developing a second-generation device aimed at boosting efficiency.
